n one of Mexico's most beautiful regions, this
16,000-square-foot home is fully integrated into the
landscape. e bright sun, crystal-clear sea and pure
white sand are some characteristics of the idyllic Riviera
Maya, where the town of Puerto Aventuras is located.
rough a competition that was open to several
architects, the members of the Abax team (Fernando de
Haro Lebrija, Jesús Fernández Soto, Bertha Figueroa
Pacheco and Pablo Blasco Hernández) succeeded
in convincing the owners of this property that their
concept was the best one for them. A private street leads
to the main building that consists of a big volume from
which several paths connect to the public areas and
bedrooms. In the large central space, with high ceilings
and comfortable seating, all social activities take place
in a warm, laid-back atmosphere. "e key point of
this project is the feeling of fluidity between inside and
outside, which achieve one whole space," says de Haro
Lebrija, founder of Abax.
On each side of the building are the bedrooms,
providing privacy to the owners and their guests. "e
integration to the site is the main characteristic," the
architect adds. "e result is an invitation from the house
to live together and in harmony with nature."
roughout the construction process, the owners
spoke with the members of Abax extensively, not only
to explain their needs but also to understand the team's
creative vision that pervades the space. "e interior
design, which was complemented partially by the
family, follows the guidelines of the architectural design
in a balanced way," explains de Haro Lebrija. In this
monochromatic home, clear tones combine with colorful
accents through textiles and works of art, patterns that
reference the local culture, and materials from the region,
