Abdi Manavi likes to refer to the new Dive Palm Springs getaway (opening in November) as more of a private luxury
time machine than a hotel. "My business partner Dale Fox and I have created an intimate atmosphere for our guests,
as you would have staying at a friend's house," says Manavi, owner and general manager. "Evoking the casual elegance
of Saint Tropez in the 1960s, we created Dive to transport our guests to a romantic forgotten world where it's still
safe to relax, play, explore and release all the trappings of modern life." Toward that end, look for a luxury boutique
resort boasting just 11 guestrooms and two suites ornamented with original murals, playful accents and more from
Tulum, Bali and St. Tropez by Santa Monica-based designer Vanessa Schreiber—all surrounding a restored tile pool
by Maurice Libbot. Also on hand: a central garden with French bistro tables and daybeds, and chic lounge and bar
area. Rates start from $300 per room, per night. -W.B.
Set to open this fall on 16 acres amid the Redwood forest in Woodside, the Canyon Ranch Wellness Retreat will offer a range of custom
Signature and Featured Retreat programs created by award-winning wellness experts. (Coming up: "Inspiring Leadership in Work &
Life" Nov. 17-21 led by InspireCorps' leaders Jen Grace Baron and Laura Campbell, and "Sound Healing for Body & Soul" Dec. 15-19
with singing bowl practitioner Katherine Hamer.) is is the first retreat model offered by the Canyon Ranch wellness resort chain.
Expect 14 guest rooms in a main retreat lodge encircled by 24 treehouses, along with activities such as hiking and biking, nature walks,
restorative spa treatments, meditation sessions, Tai Chi workshops, yoga and an outdoor obstacle course. Also available is e Hearth
restaurant, with Executive Chef Isabelle Jackson Nunes serving up locally made products including a chevre and lavender tart made with
Harley Farms cheese, Acme bread and a flatbread made with Markegard Ranch beef. Rates start at $899. -W.B.
