14 DIGS.NET | 10.16.2015 BOO! P U B L I S H E R ' S M U S E I don't know how we've gotten to mid October already (2015 has flown by), but in just two short weeks, Halloween will be upon us and the rush toward holiday season will begin. I'll be the first to admit I've never been a big Halloween costume fan, but I love nothing more than a good ghoul, zombie or horror movie to celebrate the season. Los Angeles doesn't disappoint when offering up spooks, goblins, and haunted houses. After all, we live in the entertainment capital of the world. So try one of the following haunted hot spots this Hallows' Eve—guaranteed to leave you screaming—in a good way. For a full immersion fright-fest, local amusement parks pull out all the stops. Knott's Berry Farm's Halloween Haunt (also know as Knott's Scary Farm) offers one of the oldest and most beloved experiences in the southland, with a dozen haunted attractions and over 1000 monsters lurking through the dark and murky park. Whether checking into Knott's haunted hospital, fighting the zombie apocalypse in an all-out war against the undead, or visiting Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Knott's is sure to fulfill your fantasies. A little closer to home, and in serious competition to scare you out of your wits, Universal Studios offers Halloween Horror Nights. Universal has been making horror movies for over 80 years, so their mazes and attractions are based on the most authentic and scary film and television properties available, including The Walking Dead, Insidious, and Crimson Peak. Universal's back lot also offers the Terror Tram, haunted rides, and four scare zones based on various spooky and frightfully realistic horror themes. Some LA area venues are purported to be truly haunted, so when adding man-made monsters to confirmed paranormal activity, it's a surefire recipe for Halloween hoodoo. Enter the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor. Sinister mazes and narrow passageways lead to the RIP Lounge, and for true terror lovers, book a room for an all night fright. Or board the Haunted Hayride at Griffith Park, where demons and devils escort you on an actual hayride through the park where you'll encounter pitch-black mazes, the "scary-go-round," and this year's themed boogeyman, who drags his victims through a trail of nightmarish characters. On October 31st, Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery will be screening the most celebrated cult classic film of all time, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Playing continuously since its 1975 release, Rocky Horror is the longest running film in movie history. Make a day of it by visiting the burial sites of Hollywood luminaries, Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino, Clifton Webb, and Norma Talmadge prior to the movie, and make sure to dress for the show. There will be no admittance without a costume! Thank you for keeping DIGS as a part of your regular routine. Look for our next issue on October 30. ENJOY!
