Located in the upscale Puerto Los Cabos area, the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa inspires with its perfect architectural balance of minimalism, nature and luxury. Where the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean meet is where an enchanting vacation begins. The 14-acre property, spanning 820 feet of picturesque beachfront, is true to its natural surroundings, while also celebrating sleek, modern elements conceived by master architect Jim Olson of Olson-Kundig, the Seattle-based architecture firm founded on such principles as "buildings can serve as a bridge between nature, culture and people," as stated on their website. The design approach, Olson shares, was to primarily use natural materials. "Stone and stucco colors match the sand on the beach," he explains. "Also, many plantings are indigenous. Site lines lead throughout the resort, leading your eye to nature just beyond, especially the beach and the ocean." With minimalism at the heart of the project, structures designed in a blend of concrete and stucco seamlessly fuse with the environment while simultaneously promoting the views. Featuring the same natural color palette of taupe, brown and red-orange are 299 alluring guest rooms and suites. Elements used throughout the accommodations and hotel common areas are marble, wood and concrete. For an elevated experience, the property presents the exclusive Griffin Club. This ultra-luxurious boutique resort within the resort offers a more personalized experience, with select amenities such as a private beach and pool, plus special reserved areas in the Jasha Spa and Mayma Lounge. Poignant oversized art and sculpture, meanwhile, lend this desert oasis its almost museum-like quality. "The resort is filled with important works by Mexican as well as international artists," Olson shares. "Some of my favorites are the carved stone sculpture in the upper reflecting pool by Mexico City artist Jorge Yazpik and the seated Buddha figure in the main courtyard garden by Jaume Plensa." Meander the property to seek out these incredibly well-crafted works and contemporary art from renowned international artists like American Sam Falls. A priority when visiting is pampering oneself at the incredible Jasha Spa & Salon. The breathtaking facility is an indoor-outdoor concept of more than 6,500 square feet. Features include plunge pools, private Jacuzzis and a long list of treatments. Interestingly, the spa even offers services for kids and massage A R C H I T E C T | D E S I G N | B U I L D
